Dora Lee Wheeler Alston Hulse
Dora Lee Wheeler Alston Hulse, 92, of Charlotte, formerly of Pleasant Hill, NC, died Friday, November 1, 2019, with her loving family by her side.
Dora, a native of Northampton County, was the daughter of the late James Henry and Jennie Belle Paris Wheeler. She was married to the late Julian Alston, and they were blessed with seven children. After Julian passed, she married Harold Hulse who also preceded her in death. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Edith Elliott, Marie Brown, Emma Wilson, Gertie Britton and Mary Belle Wheeler Casper Davis; her brothers, Lewis Wheeler, Jesse Wheeler, Raymond Wheeler, Hubert Wheeler and Shelley Wheeler.
Dora was retired from the Boy Scouts of America. She was a Ranger at Camp Pomperaug in Union, Connecticut for 20 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Harriett A. Madar and her husband, Daniel of Goodview, VA, Mahala A. Bene' of Cherryville, NC, and Linda A. Kish and her husband, Dennis of Pineville, NC; her sons, Willis Alston and his wife, Terry of Shallotte, NC, Richard Alston and his wife, Sharon of Supply, NC, Russell Alston and his wife, Jeanette of Monroe, Connecticut, and James Alston of Woodbridge, Connecticut; eleven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services, 731 Roanoke Ave., Roanoke Rapids, NC with Rev. Jim Cox officiating.
Dora will be laid to rest beside Julian at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids following the service in the Chapel.
The family will receive friends and family from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or Community Home Care & Hospice, 156 Corporate Blvd., Indian Trail, NC 28079.
